LIGURIA, YES TO CIRCUMCISION IN PUBLIC HEALTH FACILITIES
|
Experimentation will begin in public health facilities in the Liguria region for male circumcision in day surgery. Decided by the regional Junta in Liguria after a proposal by regional health councilman Claudio Montaldo, who received requests from various communities in Liguria. The provision will guarantee the practice of circumcision for children of anyone who makes a request, and will be carried out in Liguria public health facilities. The experimental activity will be carried out on 120 patients in the region who are under the age of 14. "Since this is about health procedures that have nothing to do with the presence of a pathology- explained the health councilman in the region - we will ask for citizens who request this service to pay a fee of 100 euro per procedure".
Along with the revenue that will come from those receiving the procedure and paying the fee, the region has set aside 90,000 euro for the first year of experimentation. At the end of the year long experiment, public heath agencies and their equivalents will prepare a financial statement for the economic aspect and in terms of procedures carried out, which will be liquidated by the region. At the end of the experiment, circumcision will be inserted among the procedures normally carried out by public heath facilities. "The goal of this provision- concluded Montaldo - that regards everyone, is to offer the most appropriate opportunity with regard to hygiene and to do it in such a way that there are no negative consequences on the subject who is circumcised, resulting in possible costs derived from treatments for complications".
